Scoring: MP

(p)-1H-(P)-(p)
??

What do you call? (Maybe some of the x's was a 9, but I did not have a Ten).

I'd pass opposite myself, since I make pretty light takeout doubles, especially opposite passed hands. So if partner has anything, he probably has three hearts. That means 1h is going down, perhaps 2. Lefty has the long hearts and the entries, they could easily hold me to 1, or even set me in 1N. And 3N seems a long way off (a source of tricks is unlikely when partner didn't overcall 2m).

In fact, I balance with 1N so rarely on these auctions, that I play it as minors with some partners.

I'd bid 1NT at any vulnerability and any form of scoring.

But I pass in 2nd seat on all these random balanced 13-counts which some people seem to think qualify for a take-out double.

Don't get balancing at imps; is the point to find game? It seems like if it's just a partscore hand that balancing converts a + into a - much more than the reverse, since if partner has a decent hand he has some heart length and they may have some better fit that they can find, or they may beat us in 1N with 1H going down.

You got to the par contract. Why is there a worst action? Unless you think two bad actions canceled each other out....

I'm not fond of West's double on that auction.
The difference between theory and practice is that in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.

Many bad actions but to me the worst is west doubling 1NT, which is just marginally worse than east passing the opening bid.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

What should East expect his partner to have?

A pretty strong hand, certainly more than enough to beat 1N opposite a supermax from non-responder?

I even wondered if it is ok Non-Vul at MP's and had a lot of doubts if it would be ok all vulnrable at MP's. Partner probably has some Hearts and there is a good chanche that we have more hearts then they have. All red it is very good possible that defending 1H is best?

Yep, I would pass all red, agree with your reasoning.

1Nt at Mp is clear. At imps its a clear pass. I find the X risky but its probably an reasonnable gamble. Pulling the X is terrible and doesnt make any sense.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

A strong balanced hand; or a hand with tricks, like West's actual hand but stronger; or just any strong hand, with East expected to pass regardless of what he has?
