Pass. Our hand with short honors is defensive and pard doesnt promise great diamonds. We are guessing to an extent, but pass looks like a winner.

I wouldnt call this a wtp. We could easily be giving up a double game swing by passing.

1) if you judge we may give up an easy double game swing....then 5d
2) if you judge other than pass.

I recently discussed with Justin that (2S)-p-(4S)-Dbl should be taken out more often than (4S)-Dbl

What was your reasoning?

It was actually 1S p 4S vs 4S, the reasoning is obviously if you have say, xxx of spades, partner could easily have a doubleton after 4S X but is far more likely to have a void than a doubleton after 1S p 4S X

Also, we've already had the opportunity to act at a low level, reducing the upside for partner doubling on a decent hand with two or more spades.

Far from a WTP. Quite frankly, it is a major headache of a problem.

I would bid 5D. I assume that this is IMPs. Passing could be a huge disaster - possibly them making game as opposed to us making slam. But bidding could be almost as big a disaster if it turns a plus into a minus.

Pass.

Not a "wtp?"

It is called "take-out" double, because you should take it out. Here, however, there are so many indications that it might be wrong.

Sometimes pass will get you to look real silly, when partner has his 4-1-4-4.

And pass will never make you look good.

Still, I belive pass is the winner in the long run.

5 for me.

Perhaps this is naive, but I have always learned that when partner makes a takeout double and I have no trump tricks in the opponents suit and six cards in one of the unbid suits, I should take it out. B)

how does this post advance our understanding of the issue, and the 'best' position to take?

How else would you have known that the answer is to take what you believe to be the best action!

Partner had AT9xx x AJT ATxx.

I passed and got down one, teammates defended 3S down 1 when they didn't open 2H. My opps (Joe and Curtis) thought it was a wtp pass and made fun of me a little for tanking :P
