I pass

My plan depends enormously on what partner and LHO do.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the auction go

(2) - P - (3) - All pass

I'd overcall 2S.

Hmm... it seems like if I passed initially and heard 2-P-3-P-P, then bidding 3 is relatively easy. Here I know that LHO doesn't have enough values to look for game, and that the opponents have a real heart fit (so we likely have a spade fit). The main concern of bidding is that partner will take me for a better hand than I have and we will get overboard, but my initial pass has taken care of this...

Hands like these make me wish opponents were playing multi. Then I could pass and be assured of a chance to get in later, with the balancing call showing a weaker hand.

With that said, over the actual 2 preempt I think I'd bid 2. Hopefully partner will realize I have the short hearts and give me some slack.

2S.

If I knew LHO was going to raise hearts, I could reopen at the 3 or 4 level.

Im specifically worried 2H - p - p even though pard rates to have a stack.

Im also concerned about 2H - p - 3N where we might need a spade lead out.

While instinctively, I would like to be able to bid 2 freely, I am a firm believer in you dont preempt a preempt, which is essentially what you are doing when you bid 2 on this holding. A direct 2 needs to be based on approximate opening values, in order that partner can better judge later in the auction.
Is the word "pass" not in your vocabulary?

2S. This is what the good players do on Vugraph.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I bid 2. Then I'll pass anything but a cuebid by p. in which case I'll rebid my spades at the lowest appropriate level.

(btw at IMP's I think I'd pass, bidding is slightly pushing it)
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

2. A bit lightish, but the only bid by pard opposite which I have less than the expected playing strength is 3NT :)

Scoring: MP

(2H)-2S-(4H)-6S-All Pass

I did bid 2S and partner raised to 6S when LHO did bid 4H. (I had a little hope when, after ruffing H lead and playing trumps; I played a small club, RHO the 9, the T from me and LHO the Ace.)
Probably I better bid from partner is 5H as a limit for 6S (assuming 5S would ask a H control)? But this was not discussed!?
I you pass then LHO raises to 4H and partner will pass. Would you bid 4S when it comes back to you?

6 is lazy. Even if overcaller had the A on top of his hand, slam would still be close to hopeless.

And I'm not even mentioning hands where 2 overcaller has a singleton heart...

yeah I don't like the 6S bid, keycard would be nice but I would play 4N there as minors, so I would just bid 5H.

ROFL.

Mike, you should write a book on Bipolar Bidding.

Hi,

it is close, if you followi Marshall Miles advice,
you should bid 2S. MP / IMP does not matter.
The playing strength is ok.

With kind regards
