I have just reread Competitive Bidding in Modern Bridge by Edgar kaplan.
I found it clear, concise and the right level for me.

But...it is from 1963.
I am seeking a recommendations for a similar but more up to date book.

The holy grail of modern competitive bidding is Robson & Segal's "Partnership Bidding at Bridge". It is available for free in pdf format online. A version with a clean layout exists, it was updated a few years ago, I recommend looking for that one.

I don't know how similar it is to the Kaplan book. Also not everything in the Robson & Segal book has aged perfectly. However, I'd say 80-90% has, and that makes it far superior to any other book on competitive bidding out there.

The Contested Auction in Bridge by Roy Hughes, it is from 2012, I have not read it very deeply yet,
but it looked ok. It will have some ideas from the Robson Segal book in it, similar the bidding
with Law of Total Tricks in mind, this should be missing from the Kaplan book.

It is very 2/1 centric.
