2: Misunderstanding, is 4♥-(pass)-5♥ barage or invite?
9: Horrible decision but maybe I should just bid my 6-card suit?
1♠-(p)-1NT-(2♣*) *=rounded suits
2♦-(p)-?
J-AQxxxx-Jx-JTxx
12: Our defense went wrong as ♠JT colided, promoting dummy's ♠7.
14:
1♣-(pass)-1♠-(pass)
1NT- (2♣) - x
IMO the double with a club void is not so practical unless you expect partner only to pass with a 2335 or so. But maybe that was the assumption?
16: I raised Nigel's 2NT to 4NT with a 3532 10-count. Very stupid. Just keep playing bridge even if you are down umpty imps.
17: Funny 1NT. I got a chance to make it when JEC squeezed his partner on the fourth heart but I butchered it.
19: KTxxx-Ax-Kx-AKxx. Do you just bid 2♠ over RHO's 2♦ or are you strong enough to start with a double? The aggressive choice worked here.
20: 432-Kxx-Kxx-KQTx. Is the worst possible support worth showing when partner opens 1♠? Nigel choice not to, leading to a good 3NT contract against the poor 4♠ contract at the other table.

Yes, two of JEC's players are of very dubious nationality. Without their support from illegal immigrants we would have won easily.

We had no agreement. Over a 4M pre-empt, I think the Sharples brothers treatment was:
- 4N = ASK. for keys.
- New suit = ASK for control. You cue-bid the suit below the suit where you need a control. (Lacking controls in 2 plain-suits, you would usually pass the pre-empt).
- 5M raise = ASK about trump quality.
Over the new suit ask, opener has enough space to distinguish between 1st and 2nd round control. AFAIR, something like:
- 5M (Opener's suit) = NEG. Denies 1st or 2nd round control.
- Transfer suit = CUE. 2nd round control.
- 6M (Jump to slam) = NAT. 1st round control. Nothing else to show.
- Other suit = CUE. 1st round control and this control.
- 5N = 1st round control and solid trumps.

I got caught on this one like a lazy trout rising to the bait. If I bid hearts the ole eagle may well get us to the making game for +420 instead of -180. The downside of a 2♥ bid instead of double is that it will (often as in here) end the auction.
Live and learn well, live anyway. I'm an old dog and these are new tricks

This is board 12, where I misdefended 3♥. I should have got it right
Thank you Helene_T. I enjoyed our game.
And thank you, GGWhiz and Eagles123. You all played well.
And thank you, Diana_Eva. It's a privilege to play against the JEC team. And instructional. And fun
