I think I'd pass too. I have some extras, yes, but partner with a nice 8+ to 10 would jump? And my hand doesn't have a quick establishable source of tricks. And the fact that we managed to avoid S puts us more on the + side.
At IMPs it would be harder but I'd pass too (unless weak opponents who give 1 or 2 tricks away in defense).
Sometimes preempts work (we say in French you have to "pay" the barrage).

The HCP are not a problem but the lack of intermediates is. I would push this to game with the AJT AKxx QT9x Kx. Only a true optimist will give p enough power to make game and MP is designed to help one avoid sketchy games.

Kx at dummy is a negative factor, only there is 14 working points in fact, so I'd pass after responding 3.

Close decision, I'd lean towards pass at MPs.

As an aggressive player I would chance 4 No one can accuse me of underbidding
and I want to go with the field. K sitting over the pre-emptor's suit has to be a plus.

I have always taught, and believed in auctions like this that you give partner 7-8 points and bid accordingly. I'm pretty sure I got this from a Mike Lawrence book.

So I thought this was a pretty normal 4 call. It was actually the subject of a director's ruling that I posted on BW a few days ago.

Yes, I am aware of the theory that you give partner 7-8 HCP. That gives the partnership 24-25. As others have observed, it is close.

Is this his original comment on this? Because as far as I remember he wrote totally the opposite.and now changed after seeing the link given by Phil. Sorry if I remember wrong.

I never heard this theory, Partner is suposed to have less the more we have, doesn't he?, I guess it just shows the average when we are on the limit.

I pass hands in the limit that others double, meaning my partner jumps to game more often, this will lower my partner's average about 1 HCP,
