Please discuss the latest version of BBO here.

The two visible changes in this version are:
  • A free weekly Instant Tournament is now available in the Solitaire Bridge area. You can try an 8-board Instant Tourney every week for free, and replay it as many times as you wish.
  • You can submit bigger profile photos from now on which, when clicked, will show up in full.
See release notes here.

The Instant tournament is fixed (example, 14 opponents lead a club, only one leads anything else and YOU lose 10.IMP because that lead is the only lead that defeats the contract. BBO takes money for these tournaments. Shame on you.

The new free Instant Tourney in Solitaire Bridge area is free.

Instant Tourneys use boards from older tournaments for comparisons and it sometimes happens that different versions of GIB are in use. That's why you'll sometimes see your robot do something else than all other tables.

If you prefer a very pure field where robots always behave identically, play the robot duplicates. Same price, they are played live not instant, and you won't have any discrepancies.

Question: When does the weekly free tournament reset? Great idea by the way. It says you can play as often as you want but my memory is still good enough it would feel like cheating. Maybe in a few more years will try more often lol.

It changes every Friday night morning. I don't think it's cheating to replay it even if you remember the boards. Everyone else will do the same. The idea is to practice and get another shot when something goes wrong. Easier to experiment this stuff with a free tourney than with a real IT :)

Edit: Sorry it's Friday morning not night, I made a mistake.

It resets at 01:00 CT Friday, which is actually late Thursday night, not Friday night. The current tourney was loaded at about 08:00 Friday.

Presumably you left a "not" out of that sentence, for it to make sense.

Anyway, caveat emptor. I play in instants a lot, in the full knowledge of the differences in GIB versions. And by the way, sometimes I win 10 IMP for exactly the same reason.

Not ideal, but there are compensations for the downside that you highlight.
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

"Gentlemen, when the barrage lifts." 9th battalion, King's own Yorkshire light infantry,
2000 years earlier: "morituri te salutant"

"I will be with you, whatever". Blair to Bush, precursor to invasion of Iraq

Maybe there's a bug, we'll check what's happening. There's no intentional feature to allow someone to see partner's alerts - that's only happening for robot games.

It's really a great addition. One more addition that I suggest you can implement in future that will make BBO much more exciting. I often noticed that people with limited skills in bridge claim themselves to be "expert" or "advanced". BBO can have their own ranking system, that will automatically indicate the appropriate skill level of any person playing here. Everybody should start as a "novice" and depending upon their performance in different "paid" or free tournaments and depending upon skill level of their opponents they can easily progress upward.

The weekly tournament reset-ie cleared results but the same hands reloaded. i remembered them fairly well. Bd 7 I will never forget and it was 100% sure the same.

Hmm. Obviously I should make a video so we can verify repeat hands with no doubt! :)

Clicking on the pictures doesn't enlarge them. Did I get it wrong or it's a bug?

If the photo was uploaded before this upgrade it won't become bigger. Only photos that were uploaded after the upgrade will show up bigger when clicked.

Was uploaded AFTER was announced the upgrade. Actually exactly for this I uploaded it. To check the new functionality. Maybe you can make a test too.
