IMPs

Has South enough for 3?
Should North balance if South passes?
How clear and how risky are both bids?

south has nothing resembling an overcall and bidding would be an absurd risk. north has a fairly easy balance, which is 4/10 on the riskiness scale.

South has a decision to make, but 3 is never entering the equation, he can double or pass, and I would pass.

North has a clearcut reopening hand, 3 is the normal bid since he lacks a third heart to double, south will bid 3 or 3 over that and 3m or 4m should be the final contract.

I might be being a bit thick, but isn't West going to raise to Three or Four Spades with four trumps and a singleton or void in a minor?

He has no minor shortness, but they have a major double fit?

Anyway, south should pass and if he cannot pass, he should double.

Despite the majority vote, I do not like bidding with the north hand. I would pass.
Kind Regards

Roland

Then they are not playing Muiderberg.

No, the bidding at the table was (2)-AP.
West had
?xx (I think Axx)
KT9xxx

xxxx

East's Muiderberg was off-shape: 6=2=4=1

I'm trying to convince my partner that balancing with this hand is not without risk, but passing is more risky. This doesn't help :)

Call the TD, in our regions you can't explain a 6-4 as muiderberg, so your opps will definitely get a penalty.

If South really wants to do something, he better Dbl instead of overcall. But the hand is too weak imo. With the North hand I'd Dbl.

It seems that there is a consensus that South should pass, but there is some disagreement about balancing by North:
Clearcut reopening 3, obvious pass, DBL?

What style should I go for (who is best the player of repliers till now  ?)

If Fluffy thinks it's worth a 3-level overcall, then it's certainly worth a 3-level overcall!!

It also depends if your partner will jump to 4 whenever he has a 4 card . If he's one of those, then 3 is definitely better than Dbl.

My partner told me that I had the North slightly wrong:

This makes the 3 bid 100%? ;)
