Can X be just "they ain't making"?
It must suggest an up contract for us.
5S is my best guess. Even consider 6C - pick a M-slam.
I expect good Diamonds already bid 5D.

I voted for pass but I think we should bid 5S. The big upside is that partner may bid 6.

If partner was forced to pass then I think that we should pass instead.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I pass.

The double for me is a hand that wants to compete red/white facing a passed hand partner, so it is not shabby. With 2 control cards, which rate to be over RHO length in the majors, I have a great hand, slam is not out of the question. I think passing is soft and will choose 5S,6C may well be the home run. I see some upside to playing from the other side, but feel it may want to deliver a tad more. Partner is still there after 5S.

5. Just enough shape and just enough points in the right areas. I think we are making often enough to compensate for our lousy penalty against 5.

This situation came up last thursday in the club except that your hand was a 5-1-6-1 and it was red/red. Pass turned out to be the winning action.

I would bid 5 for sure. I only pull with something where I expect to make, so very roughly speaking it looks like a two level preempt (in this case a two-suited one).
