I would likely miss slam too but by agreement in my partnership you can't bid 5 without thinking you have at least a decent chance of making it.

That gives West a clear double and East a chance to bid on in inspired fashion. Kinda playing the 5 bidder to be crazy so we'll likely take our smallish plus right here.

My regular pard is a bit crazed when backed into a corner on these colours though and I'm 60-40 to have a 6 bid coming back to me.

It was nice of North to bid again. Perhaps, on a good day, East would have decided to teach him a lesson and bid 6 out of pique.

This is a bit of a magical fit, but there are some clues. East's 5 should be made on a 6-loser if we are to have solid chances to make (24-6-7=11). So West should know partner has 6 losers. How does West value the hand? On the surface there are 7 losers but the excess of Aces over Queens suggests upvaluing to 6 losers. How confident are you that 6+6=12?

As East player i would definetely blast slam and would be defending 6 doubled most of the time. The times when they dont save i would either make it or have at least a reasonable out for it.

No way, the preempt worked.

West was sure that 5 goes down but he has no method to find that whether 6 makes. By the way, the first double was bad, but it does not affect the further preempt.

East's hand suggests that 4 makes, therefore, he may just bid 5 as a sacrifice. 4 is either weak or strong, and is to play.

P.S. I missed the vulnerability, 5 is to make.

take advantage of the vulnerability-------------we do not sacrifice at these
colors it is just too darned difficult to be that accurate in the bidding at
game level. the 5h bid is to make.

E bid 5h saying he felt 5h was a reasonable contract opposite
a normal 2s x. E was willing to bid 5h despite missing the heart AQ
the spade A and the dia A. It is almost impossible to construct a 5h
bid from p where 6h does not have play opposite our collection. It is also
significant that E passed 5s which means they are not worried about 2
quick spade losers. E might also have x 5s if they bid 5h with a hand like
x Kxxxxxxxx xx x to warn p the 5h bid is more on distribution than power.

If we trust E bidding we must bid 6h.

Blasting to slam (with say 5n pick a slam) has some appeal but west
can be significantly stronger and we might still be missing the controls
needed for slam say A QJxx KQJx KQxx
