Erm, yes. I should say that with 3 HCP and four rubbish spades West should take the normal action and pass. If partner only needed a king from you, he would bid game himself. Or with some GF hand that would be suited to two different games he could bid 4.

4C is fine unless the defense shifts immediately to a heart at trick two. We can avoid game on the given auction, thanks to South's 3D bid. Not sure we can avoid game after the appropriate 4D bid.

Of course should never bid 4S here, he misunderstood the auction I think.

I think that east would have done better to double a second time I think. 4C bypasses both 3DX and 3NT.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
