Hello everyone,

I will make a big summary of the best threads of this decade (and yes I know the forums only existed since 2003). I need everyone's help since I have only been around since October 2006 and will have missed many of the best threads. So please send me any threads that you think might be worth including in a top 20 or so (post here, PM, IM, Email, etc) . Concentrate on older threads but anything goes. Except Water Cooler and Laws forum, I am not a big contributor to either so I would probably misjudge it.

This is an idea that is not clear at the moment so please tell me what you think is the best way to go about it (just a list of all proposals+mine, or a ranked list according what I/our group think, open poll between most proposals, one category/more categories, etc).

For example, bear in mind that some of the "top" threads for many may include ugly flamewars (top thread is not just one that is extremely informative, at least not IMO). Would you rather there was none of those included?
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

"The Tenerife story" remains in my memory as one of the hottest BBF discussions ever....

I won't find them but my two votes are the argument with Foo on the overcall of the preempt, and the long thread about the "We Didn't Vote for Bush" sign. Both got extremely heated so it depends on your standards, but both were hugely entertaining. Also both had a ton of posts, which I think should have a positive impact toward the odds of being chosen.

I don't see why flamewars wouldn't be included. If it wasn't worth the mods removing then it should be fine to point to now.

Er, edit. I wanted to nominate Ben's stuff on squeezes. I should have clicked the links first.

I support the original nomination.

I doubt this will make the top 10 (of 2008, let alone 2000s), but there is only one thread I bookmarked in over four years of being on the forum:

I hadn't seen the 5th thread linked by hotShot before, that's a great thread with results that correspond to some suspicions I had formulated but hadn't seen verified anywhere else. Thumbs up!

I second this one. It's really one of the most eye-opening threads I have seen on BBF, and I think one of its lessons (preempt with shortness in the majors!) is by far not well-known enough.

Hmm I don't understand this thread... Tysen is really smart though! He wrote a famous poker book after all of this also.

Cliff note version: What's the worst shape to pick up in a money game? No, not some 4333, it is 2=2=(5-4).

It's a great post but I don't think the entire thread is anything special. But we all do get to make our votes in this democracy. :)

I liked AWM's simulations of the impact of length in opener's suit on the probability of finding a fit when overcalling:

Also, if I am allowed to vote for a water cooler thread, I will nominate the envelope problem thread.

Yes, I'd pretty much agree with you on that Josh. I guess for me that particular post was so good that it made the entire thread. I've shared that advice with many, many beginners since reading it.

How come there has been no nomination for any thread which
  • concerns convention regulation;
  • suggests BBO institute a rating system; or
  • discusses whether a "4 point range" is 10-13 or 10-14?
