Support dbl usually only applies under 2 if I am not mistaken - so I am not sure what a dbl would be here if not for penalty or points-showing. Also, one should have an agreement of what passing actually means in this situation.

Anyhow, a 3 seems right. E should not have any problem bidding 4. But then again - what do I know...

Partner might have a (5)6-count with only 4 spades, so there's no hurry to bid 3.

You're just minimum strenght (distribution is a plus of course). So passing should be fairly obvious - partner is still there with a chance to bid. With Axxx partner will be short, and reopen unless his absolutely minimum.

On this hand, partner will double 3, you show your support with 3 and he raises himself to game.
Kind regards,
Harald

I care about the friends I have made on BBO. Also, I am extremely concerned about the environment/ ecology/ wildlife/ the little planet that we call Earth. How much more of the world's habitat and food supply for animals do we plan on destroying. How many more wetlands are we going to drain, fill, and build on? How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?

Agree with this.

Ditto. I am shocked at how often I see people bid 3 or even 4 under pressure on this auction with minimums and three trumps.

Really excellent point.

Real experts may be shocked but it is just this kind of feedback on the forum that is really useful.

pass, you have a min. opener, if partner finds a reopening
contra you should be ok
the question is, what do you want to bid?
#1 3H, suit length / quality is not really apealing
#2 3S, should show real support, 4-3 fits are ok,
but only if you can use the hand with short trumps
to ruff, they will force you in diamonds
#3 X, should be t/o and stronger
#4 3NT, ... you dont even know, that your side has the bal.
of power

With kind regards
Marlowe

PS: Instead of 3D a better bid from South is 2NT, not everyones
cup of coffee, but a lot better
With kind regards
