1 opened on your right

At the table I was so tempted with a 2NT bid I bid it. My reasoning was I did not want P to get over excited holding 6 spades, and this could be my only opertunity to get my hand off my chest

Afterwards I thought that 2NT was the safe bid and there is a chance that the oposition could find a 8 or 9 card spade fit and struggle with a bad break.

What would you bid and what are your thoughts.

I prefer to let my opponents play the misfit hands.

I play a good / band unusual 2NT so 2NT would never occur to me

I'm a fairly active bidder, but I am happy to pass this one

Clubs not good enough to bid. Double with a spade void is out of the question, and 2NT, well, not for me. Maybe later... depending upon how the auction develops. Pass is the only choice right now.

Although I am a big advocate of bid now rather than pass and back-in later, this hand has no good bid. I don't like 2-level overcalls on ratty 5-card suits. I refuse to double without 3+ in all unbid majors. 2N with only a 5-4 and 4-cards in opps suit with intermediate strength does not appeal to me. So there really is no other bid.

Let's pass and see who bids the spades.

I have to agree with the crowd. I may yet bid later, but there are good odds I would much rather defend on this hand. I may even end up doubling them at the finish.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

I don't think anyone has put this strongly enough.

For an unusual 2N, you need 5-5 AND good suits. Here you have 5-4 only, bad suits, AND you have a lot of stuff in RHO's suit.

I am glad the vote is unanimous(!) though.
