A popular choice will be 4 splinter. I think that is fine. The one thing south can nont do is make a non-forcing bid like 3, and I can not see what good a 2 bid will do here. So the only choices I think are 4 and 4,

With a 3 loser hand and long minor prefer to open this hand 2clubs, but many disagree.

I guess now you just rebid 4d, splinter and pass if partner rebids 4H.

Obviously worth a GF... I don't know too many fancy systems, with some partners I splinter, and with others I just bid 4H.

If there is a slam here, partner will move again.

This will be either a 3 or 4 splinter depending on how you have defined each of these.

Defining the difference between 3 and 4 is very important. In my established partnerships, I play 3 is a mini/maxi splinter to differentiate it from 4, a distributional raise to 4. The mini splinter is a distributional raise to 3 with four-card heart support and at most one diamond. In the particular auction, this bid is not game forcing only if responder rebids 3. If opener moves over an attempted signoff, either by cuebidding another suit (could be clubs) or raising to 4, then he has the maxi splinter. This is a sound raise to 4 with mild slam interest, although the sequence 1-1-3-3-Cuebid usually ends in game. However, the largest gain comes when responder can cuebid a suit on the way to 4 and begin the slam investigation lower.

This particular hand is a textbook example of a 3 maxi splinter.

The problem with 4 is what's your next move after partner bid 4. He will always do that with K and A or even K and A, right?
But without gadgets like what jchiu said, I have to bid 4 too.

Agree with Jason.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I rebid 3 here. If partner accepts the (initial) game try, he'll cue on the way to 4. If partner rebids 3, I'll cue 3 next.

A 4 rebid would show a void in my methods.
Kind regards,
Harald

I like 4d (Splinter). That way you can feel you have gotten it off your chest.
