Not going to make a high level x with a void, just what I believe in per Larry Cohen, many disagree.

4spades now, will run to 4nt if doubled. :)

So pard could have doubled 3 if he wanted to suggest a sac?

I pass. Maybe we'll beat it with a , 2's and a slow heart trick.

Either you are an adrenaline junkie or a discplinarian. The former bid 4, hoping for a dummy like Qxxxx xxx Jxx xx while the latter pass, hoping for a dummy like xxxx J10xx x xxxx.

If I knew that 4 was making, I'd be a lot happier about seeking the rush of seeing a good dummy come down, but I am a chicken, even tho I acknowledge that this is precisely the type of hand that generates double-game swings.

BTW, at this vulnerability, I am not at all sure just how good a hand partner needs to say the d word over 3. In fact, in my serious partnerships, our agreement about doubling a splinter (without the takeout double) is to suggest a lead... in one ppship, the non-trump over the splinter, in the other, the non-trump under the splinter (now, if I can only stop getting confused as to who I play which with....)

We haven't discussed it after a takeout double by me, and it sure makes sense to use it as suggesting a desire to compete.. but I hate making up agreements on the fly. I bid 4 and find out that partner was trying to get me to lead A and another with him holding xxxx xxxx x xxxx :) ??? And he says...didn't we discuss this?

I usually play splinter doubles. If we are NV, it suggests a sac. If we are Vul, it says, lead the higher ranking suit.

Pard's only hcps are likely to be in hearts or clubs. That suggests opps will not have an easy ride in 4. However, if opps have either a 10 card fit (as our void suggests) or some extras, 4 rates to be quite cold.

I consider this a very difficult decision. Inclined to pass, but it wouldn't surprise me to be missing a good sac. Would bid 4 if I needed a swing.

PASS...
I HATE phantom sacs so much. This hand could easily have 4 defensive tricks off the top. Or generate a 4th trick with a diam upper-cut of dummy. Worse, if I bid 4S, there is a distinct possibility that we could end up in the wrong suit.

Double? That is takeout again or will partner leave it in with 3433. At 4HX, Murphy will have dummy come down with no spades and declarer with a singleton diam. They missed their laydown slam, but the doubled overtricks make up for some of the lost slam bonus.

Pass.

A sacrifice is out of the question at this vulnerability. If I bid something it's because I expect to make it. P could have doubled 3 to suggest 4.

Pass, nice hand, but even if it was
green vs. red, I would pass, and in
this case you would have a chance
to sell me action.
