2♣ over 1♦ is awkward even with a full GF, and with a void in partner's suit this feels well short. So 1♥ for me - if partner rebids 2♦, good luck to them; if 1♠ or 1NT, I'm showing clubs via XYZ.

Shortage in openers suit is no plus, you have at best a min 2/1 response, if you take the shortage
into account and downgrade, what is left?

Similar after opener rebids 1S, bid 1NT.
And if opener rebids 1NT pass, ..., yes you know, there is a better fit, but you cant get there, ...
that happens, stay low.

I would bid 2♣ because I can show 5+♣ 4♥ and a minimum 2/1 in an acol context with 2N over 2♦ (with anything better I bid an artificial 2♥)

This is the beginner forum, they are not playing XYZ. The 4 bids to make are 1n,2n, raise to 2s, and pass. This is a bit too strong to pass. Considering the misfit, it's not good enough to bid 2n. I'm actually ok with either 1n or 2s, either one could work out quite well.

This is a hand from my game, they got too high. I will find out how this was bid later this week.

If we are playing walsh then I need to be able to bid 3c showing something...weak or inv. Also if not playing walsh and 1h bid is banned, since beginner forum I would start with my 6 card club suit and bid an SAYC 2c.

Funny enough the bidding could go

2s-3c, showing 10-11 and 6 clubs in SAYC, some may rebid 2nt showing again 10-11 per SAYC.

1 — 2
2 — 2NT, 3, 3 = invitation to game (10–11 points).

Either case I avoid raising on 3 spades in beginner forum.

The hand has 10HCP, I guess pass will work out ok, most of the time, but the bid is 1NT.
If they start to pass, when opener could hold 17-18HCP, it will get even more random.

if you can convince them to raise, this is fine too, but given that they are starting out, the
raise should show a 8 card fit, ..., you dont want to hear: "But it could be a 3 card raise!".

Nobody likes bidding 1NT, ... I dont like taking a shower with ice cold water either, sometimes
it needs to be done, and I will do it, just making sure, it happens quickly.

As it is, saying that pass is not an option is simple to explain:
You were strong enough to respond to a 1C opening, you are still strong enough to respond to 1S, and the
only valid response is 1NT.
And yes I know, ..., that 1S is commonly played as non forcing, but I would teach them forcing.
The reason that it is played as non forcing is, that the first response could be weaker (less than 6HCP),
which is ok, ... but if they reg. start to respond with less than 6 they are beyond Beginner,
assuming it is for the right reason.
The diff is minimal, and wont matter for a long long time.

Unfortunately partner had KQJx, void, xxxxx, AQ104 and you made 1♠+lots, 7♣ was of course cold.

I'd bid 2♠ opposite someone who is a good card player or someone who wants to learn to be a good card player.

Otherwise, 1N.

If they are not playing XYZ (and you are right, we should never push conventions on beginners before they have sufficient experience to see the need) then they should not be playing the 4th suit as anything more than a one round force either: so a natural 2C after 1S seems appropriate here.
