Hi all

Recently I had this rather expensive hand at IMPs
I thought 2NT with 19 points was not that dangerous and considered a superaccept but decided to just go the regular accept and game bid indicating 20 pts
Sadly I ended in an unmakeable slam and those who superaccepted made 4+1
Rather a costly missed game

Strange. Does the robot play super-accept to 4 as a minimum, poor controls?

Doesn't seem that strange to me. The robot is definitely more *likely* to make a slam move over a superaccept. But just because one is a higher chance than the other doesn't mean you won't get occasions where the non-superaccept sim says make a try and the superaccept sim says don't.

In my book, though GIB might play it differently, a superaccept is when you have 4 card trump support and a hand with some ruffing strength, not just 4 card trump support with a minimum 2NT opener in a 4-3-3-3 shape. (Though in my notes, this applies when partner opens 1NT as opposed to 2NT, so it might be fair to say that superaccepts with a 2NT opener might have a different base for accessing LOTT with one hand having the majority of the HCPs.)

Thanks, perhaps that's it.

There has been discussion recently both here and there about whether or not responder should rebid a natural second suit after transfer over 2NT. This hand reinforces my conviction that it is not the best agreement (although one could argue that in any case Robot should not rebid diamonds with that hand, nor ask for keycards). If he control bids clubs instead we would stop safely in 5 spades here, knowing about the keycards and void but also the missing second level control in both minors.
