Pass
Pass, pass, pass.
Partner will rebid 2S with 6=3 majors, or 5=2, if we double.
Partner will pass 2C out only with club length, which not only means we have club losers but also reduces the chances of his also having hearts.
Meanwhile, partner will reopen with short clubs. I’ll bid 3H over both a reopening double and 2S. Very close to 4H but there are a lot of reasonable 5=3=3=2 hands for partner where 4H has zero play, since the 2C bidder will often have a 6 card suit.
AQJxx Axx Qxx xx
3H will show something like this hand (not the void, but the suit length and approximate hand value)
In the unlikely event that LHO bids 3C over my pass, and partner passes, again I have an easy 3H call
Finally, one should strive to pass in tempo. If you can’t do that, then you may be causing your partner a serious problem (if he or she is ethical) should he or she hold a borderline reopening hand. And, if your partner is prone to ethical lapses, you may run afoul of the director.
I take your points re passing.
But, I'm confused as to why you will bid 3
♥ over partner's 2
♠. (I have no issue with 3
♥ over partner's reopening double. That's obligatory.) 3
♥ over 2
♠ strikes me as asking for trouble at red v. green. Even at green v. green, I want to try and make a possible plus score in 2
♠.
Thanks.
