I overcalled 2D and then bid 4C on my own. North sitting with 3 card diamond support, 7(!) card club support, a void in hearts and the ace of spades really can't do more than just pass 4H?

What can you say? Sometimes it boggles the mind.

I wonder when that upgrade is coming.

I don't understand the description of 4 - 18+HCP;18-total points. Still, 18 points plus North's 5 HCP is only 23 points :P

manudude03 - Were you surprised at the sluff-ruff at trick 2? :P GIB once made a negative double holding 8 clubs after I opened 1 on a 5 card suit. I barely blinked an eye when my opening lead gave the opponents a sluff-ruff at trick 1.

I was very surprised. Maybe I shouldn't lead a second club, but didn't think it could ever cost!

I presume advanced bot, it was the free weekly tournament.

Points don't matter.

I just wonder because the addled abysmal software did not hear a double then 3D later (18+ points) it assumed partner sitting with many hearts for all it knows.
Again, probably, had a choice between 10 different bidding rules and the random number generator kicked in.it DOES NOT understand sacrifices. so it's stuck.

Quite understandable. Basic Bidding Engine is broken and impossible to fix.

Gib started out as a retail program that ran standalone on Windows PCs, either via a GUI or by command prompt. The latter feature probably enticed BBO to purchase the program when they were looking for a bot to run after the original developer had halted working on the program around 2002 or so. They bought him out, took over maintenance/development, adapted it to work on their server farm.

It is still available, though I don't know why anyone would buy it now (I bought my copy around 98 when it was state of the art).

Just totally dumb. Thank goodness I no longer drive. The idea of computer-controlled, driverless cars just scares me when I see GIB. This one just looks permanently stuck on the red light.

If GIB was really evaluating hands, then I agree that points don't matter. The pass of 4 says they do matter.

Give more points and it will still pass. Is strange that the original commercial program found a club bid. Have they mess up the current program?
take away A a human would bid 5

on this hand it doesn't matter much the points 6 and diamond side fit says bid.
