Why does West give preference to 2H in the first place, only then (correctly) to give preference back to Diamonds? 2D was no more forcing than was 1H.

West having apparently expressed doubt between Hearts and Diamonds, why does East not pull 3DX to 3HX?

Why is West Gib bidding at all? South's double is takeout if it just shut-ups North will bid 2♠ and a nice part score will ensue.

No argument with your points about GIB. I will say your bidding is usually sensible, but I can't imagine bidding 2C as opposed to doubling with your hand.

You get no particular gripe from me on that. Especially with a human partner.

I have been experimenting lately opposite GIB with 5-4 hands that are too strong for a simple double-and-subside.
With such hands the options are
(1) to double and then, assuming no fit has yet come to light, bid your longest suit (which may be read as a better suit), or
(2) to double and then, assuming no fit has yet come to light, cue bid the opponent's suit (which is invariably forcing to 3N), or
(3) to start by bidding your longest suit and then, assuming you get another chance, to bid your 4 card suit or reopen with a t/o X.

I get a feeling that GIB copes better if you treat it with method 3, but the jury's still out.

My main reservation about this hand is that it is borderline whether it is worth another bid if partner comes up with a minimum response.
