I bid 2C. If we x and p bids D we're a bit screwed.

clear double - partner will have 5 most of the time if he bids diamonds.

A not clear double, trouble is it's not really good enough to bid 2c and then double.

Double to me means that I have the other three suits which I don't.
Partner bidding diamonds is not the only problem with a double. Another problem is the opponents bidding diamonds and partner preferring to defend (because of the diamonds that I have promised) possibly even doubled.
Once you double with hands like these, your partner is not going to trust your takeout doubles anymore.
And don't forget, you may be able to double in the next round when the opponens bid diamonds.

Gah, I really messed this up. Actually both were vul and partner was dealer (she passed).
I went with 2C, and things quickly descended into the farcical.
The point of the thread was whether, because of the risk of missing the 4-4 spade fit, an offshape X is better than 2C. Works on this hand, but as others have said, not so much if partner has some 3343 or 3253. Still, I bet I'm not the only one wondering why partner didn't X instead of 3C...

- partner put in a wimpish 3C on AK10x x Q9xx 109xx
- RHO bid 3H (reasonably enough)
- I raised to 4C (wtf was I thinking; perhaps I did misread the vul as love all at the table?!)
- LHO finished his dog-walking shenanigans with 4H
- partner doubled this for -790, with 4S cold our way

A double of 2♥ would be rather poor imo - I don't think it should ever be done with prime support, since you generally end up having to do something unilateral later on. I think he has a clear 3♥ bid, showing a good raise to at least 4♣. It would be rather easy to reach 4♠ after that start.
Anyway, partner's first action was superb when compared to the double of 4♥.
The 2♣ overcall deserved a better fate, but I much prefer masterminding with 1♠ opposite a weak partner. Being vulnerable puts me off a bit though, and I would tend to prefer 2♣ with a decent partner.
