Eagles, if 1 was forcing (for example Cyber plays it that way) then I think you have to bid 3. If 1 shows a failure to bid forcing 2, then 2 is reasonable at MP imo.

IMO, It depends whether the double promises 4+ s; or exactly 4 s; or just a hand that is a bit stuck.
  • Assuming that the double shows 4 s, then you would expect opener to bid at least 2 if he had 4+ s too. Hence, 1 by opener would normally show only 3s. Thus, wild raises seem inappropriate.
  • If the double showed 4+ s then 2 = 10, 1N = 9, Pass = 8.
  • If the double showed 4 s but denied 5 then 2 = 10, 2 = 9, Pass = 8.
  • If the double was nebulous (so opener's 1 presumably showed 4+ ) then a limit raise to 3 = 10 seems appropriate.

I don't think North is likely to hold only three spades. Playing 4-card majors / weak NT then North will usually be unbalanced for this sequence (I suppose a strong no trump hand without a heart stop is possible).

In this case I would expect North to be at least 5-4 in diamonds/spades and you know that you have at least an eight-card spade fit.

I think that it is close between 2S and 3S - but suspect that I would tend to bid three.

Really? I thought the most common usage of 1 here is precisely to show a 3 card raise and avoid having to mix that in with a 2 rebid!

In forum bridge perhaps you are right. It is not common at all irl bridge especially among I/A level players. Not even as common as it should be among adv+ players.

To me, without discussion, 2H looks like values and confirming a fit, so why not bid that? As well as suggesting game without forcing to the three level, it makes the opps less likely to compete when they have a decent sac on.

I think 1 is either 3 spades and no heart stop (eg 3253 15 count, or less if unbalanced) or a terrible hand with 4 spades.

With a sound minimum with 4 spades, partner would bid 2. Anyway, since there was no heart raise, I don't expect the former hand-type, but I make the obvious continuation of 2 regardless. If partner has a bad 3451 I expect him to retreat to 2.

Passing seems pretty reasonable to me in these conditions (which is also how I like to play).

LOL @ me

For some reason i am seeing the auction as

1m--1
1

Now everything everyone else said, started to make sense to me. Even though I saw it correct when replying to Zel.

Well, I wouldn't pass 2 on that. I'd try 3.

Fairly confident you would not have rebid 1 in the first place.

Possibly, yes. But having done so, I'd carry on now.
