Couldn't partner think that our failure to redouble shows a first round club control?

Edit: Just realised we probably would have bid 6 instead of 6 in that case.

This seems backwards to me, we would redouble with a club void to stop partner from running (and because we know their plan of club to the ace and a diamond ruff isn't going to work so we will probably make). Redoubling when we are going down and passing when we think we are going to make does not make a lot of sense to me.

We would not necessarily always bid 6C with the C void if we were off for instance the DK

To err is human and even Bermuda Bowl winners are human. Before taking precipitate action, you should consider possibilities like
  • The auction might have confused RHO. He might imagine that LHO is on lead.
  • You might be missing 2 or 3 top honours, when 6X-1 might score better than 6NX-6.

A partner a long time ago used to love "psych lightner". It's successes were always the talk of the tourney; so were its failures.

Redouble or pass; nothing else makes sense.
There is a big difference between a good decision and a good result. Let's keep our posts about good decisions rather than "gotcha" results!

Redouble does not make sense to me either.

So you told us partner's pass of 4H was more encouraging than 4S would have been...

What would partner's double of 4H be? What would our double of 4H have been when partner passed it around? (In two of my partnerships, the answer is that pass and double are used in some fashion to have a cuebidding auction, and it seems like one or the other of us ought to have used that space here.) If the answer is 'penalty' I suppose that's a good reason to not do it on these cards... but I have a hard time seeing any situation where we would sell out to 4HX here.

Opening lead had diamond void, and had dedcted form the bidding partner had A so he led a club and got 1 down, winning 17 against 6 making on the other room.

Partner had A, K , Q with a stiff K to kick so 6 and 6NT makes

Not being used to playing at such a high level, maybe I'm missing something. For me the 5!h bid is denying Ac so 7d is surely doomed. 6nt seems a big guess and requires partner to have quite a lot in clubs, certainly KQ. I agree that the double probably shows a diamond void hoping for a ruff. So I guess the opening lead of a club to his partner's ace and a diamond ruff is the plan. What can we do about it? Anything else may take us out of the frying pan into the fire! My vote is to pass.

Playing a 64- board match, the opponents at your table are a pair who have won the Bermuda Bowl, you hold

KQ42
A65
AKJ64
10

The auction is, starting on your right,

P 1D P 1S
1NT 4C 4H P
P 4S P 5H
P 6S P P
dbl ?

4C = splinter
Partner's pass over 4H was more encouraging than bidding 4S

note: read the auction carefully. It is the opening leader who has doubled.
