Can "help me find a game" put players into the Acol Club? Otherwise I don't understand how so many non-Acol players could end up there (very disruptively).

Keep the table locked (permission required for new players) and you are safe.

I don't think that "help me find a game" will take people to a club. Rather, the players you are talking about may
- join a table where one of their friends is playing, not realizing it is the acol club
- have learned/heard that the acol club is a friendly place, regardless of the system you play
- play something like for example Dutch Acol, which they think is sufficiently similar to Acol
- click the Acol Club by accident
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

I thought this question had died an unlamented death :)

However, what I frequently see is someone who just arrives at a table, has a profile that just says SAYC (if not completely empty), never speaks, and never answers question about system. Usually the auctions are nightmarish - it's often helpful to have the auction 1NT - pass - pass - pass when responder has 10 points, and for the SAYC player to leave the table in a huff after game is missed. Otherwise everyone stays uncomfortable until the player leaves, and if his partner leaves knowing the game is unplayable, most people will not join the table.

Usually when I check the player's record, he or she has never played a hand in the Acol club, at least in the time period shown. This, and my observation that such players appear all too regularly, is why I wondered whether there is a bug allowing this to happen.

I'm not sure if HMFAG sends people to Acol, but it is possible that it does send them to any public club. OTOH there is a feature in HMFAG on web version called "Play bridge > List interesting tables" that suggests Acol tables to people.

Well, if it does, I wish it wouldn't, because it's extremely disruptive.

Either its a bug or I will eat my socks if "HMFAG" sends players to the ACOL club. No BBO programmer would have coded that.

We've just changed the HMFAG -> Places to Play -> List Interesting Tables so it will only list tables in the Main and Relaxed Bridge Clubs.

It seems to me that Jillybean was talking about HMFAG--> Take me to the first seat available, which would be how the system would "send players" somewhere. She likely wasn't talking about HMFAG -> List Interesting Tables, which simply provides the player with a list of tables from which to choose rather than simply "sending" them to one.

PS: What is this "Places to Play" step? I'm on the Windows version, and it goes right from HMFAG to List interesting tables.

It's the "Play bridge" heading, not Places to play. We also have a list of interesting tables in HMFAG > Watch bridge, so Barry explained which one was tweaked.
