I think my choices are pass, 5 and X. X has issues, is it t/o, if so and he bids 4 to I bid 4nt, is that blackwood or minors. Do I rip 4 to 5, is that a cue looking for slam. Too many ways this auction can get confused, without a good solid agreement of methods I'm not doubling this.

So pass or 5? At Imps I'm whimping out and passing. Too much risk of -500 Vs +50 or +100. Yes I could miss a cold game, that's what pre-empts do.

At pairs I reckon I'll bid 5 but I still think pass is an ok bid. Sometimes the pre-empters win! - sometimes they go for a big minus too :-)

I'm interested in what others do with this hand and others like it. The 6-4 in the minors make it tough, do you bid 4nt and find the 4-3 fit and miss your 6-2 or 6-3 fit? Do you find your 6-1 fit and miss your 5-4 or 4-4 fit. Maybe pards has a 6313 weak hand and you miss 4? If you X for t/0 to you pass 4 I couldn't but...

X at MP pass at Imps. 5D on a 6 card suit at V/nv is a joke imo.

I like to play that X and 5C show both m with better clubs and X and 4NT show both m with better D. Getting to best game trumps getting to slam. Here however i think I would X and pass 4S, but ill pull if they double.

I am going to bid 5D. Can this work out badly? Of course! I am not going to double because i do not know what to do over 4S, (yes, 4NT would now be B'wood I assume).

5D. Most likely our best fit.

Tough problem...either P or 5 could be right.

It's tempting to take the +50 or +100 (hopefully) by passing, but it really depends on the state of the match and the likely auction at the other table.

Hi,

4NT is out, this showes 55, do I really intend to pass 5C?

X is out, this showes 4 spades, do I really plan to pass 4S?

So either bid 5D or pass.

I would go with 5D, but dont mind pass.

With kind regards
Marlowe

For the serious problem, I'd like to play in clubs if partner had 4 because AKxxxx is very good to be able to ruff third round in dummy, however 6-4 is too much disparity, so I´d bid 5

I would much rather double than bid 5D. If partner passes I'm happy and if partner doesn't I can always retreat to diamonds (though not over 5C).
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I passed. Not a success:

As an aside, if you were North and your partner bid 5D, would you give him a bump?

I might bump 5D to 6 yes. Got 2 good cards and a useful void. That's way above average.
