4NT in competition

Perhaps someone should point out to GIB that 4NT in competition is only then natural when we have bid 3NT to play before.
This happened:



4NT was explained by GIB as 15+ with 4+♦. He passed and GIB opponent smartly didn't double as he took 4NT five off with 5♣X only down 1. It was still over average as 4♠ was making, but still... Not finding a ruff lets 5♣ through. I guess this applies in many situations.

Yeah, 4NT as artificial should really be standard. The more frustrating one is bidding 4NT after bidding an unusual 2NT, gib thinks that is to play as well.

I don't think it plays unusual 4NT over a 3M pre-empt either.

Actually, 4♦ is explained as 4+D; 15+ total points. It appears to me that GIB had no idea what 4N was, and therefore simply restated the same description for 4N.

I haven't analyzed the play at those tables, but all three N/S pairs who played 5♣x were -300, worse than your -250. Traveller: http://online.bridge...ername=Gerben42
