Bid it then play it A nice contract, how should it be tackled?

Is there a choice to 3♣?
Does 4♠ describe South's shape and strength?
Is there a better way to get to the slam?
How do you play after a diamond lead?
I forgot to ask, is 6NT better than 6♦ from North's point of view?

I might post some continuations depending on the line chosen.

Oh, and I got it from a teaching table at BBO (random hand, not prepared), not a textbook.

if both people follow to the first round of diamonds (won with the 9) am I not just cold on any non 5-0 club break?

K of clubs, and run the 8 of clubs unless an honour appears or LHO shows out? In fact even if lho plays an honour I should duck I think in case he started with QJxx. I can then subsequently ruff a club high crossing in trumps and drawing trumps and claiming.

I might potentially even survive a 5-0 club break if rho is out by winning the diamond in dummy and playing a club to the K. If he pitches I might be able to draw trumps and play a club to the ten. Will need 2-2 diamonds obviously to preserve a late trump entry, if lho splits I can later force out the other club honour. If he doesnt I can ruff a club cross to the ace of spades and ruff another club. Now I can ruff one spade and pitch three of them. If rho has 5 clubs and the k of clubs gets ruffed by lho I am not sure you can win, but you might if lho has no diamond left to return. Can take the ruffing finesses and eventually get two spade pitches on clubs and one spade ruffed and the two major suit aces.

This is the line that would be in the book: ♦A, ♣K, ♦10, ♥A throwing a club, club ruff high, ♦Q, club ruff high, draw trump.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Isnt't that line worse as it will go off on all 5-0 club breaks pretty trivially? You no longer have enough entries to ruff out 5-0 clubs even if the diamonds are 2-2 on that line? Must be right to win in dummy and play a club to the k?

Your line probably better at MP as i will virtually never make an overtrick.

Yes, I think you're right. I still think my line would be the one in the book though :)
