The shadow creature is in the books and I don't think it could be taken out without major plot changes elsewhere to compensate. Future episodes will explain why this is so.

Not being a fan, I rarely read this thread. But Becky, my wife, watches regularly. She found the American Game of Thrones absolutely hilarious. Clinton was her favorite, but she just generally loved the whole thing.

Understand regarding the Joffrey torture scene. It sure did a good job of underscoring that he is a sadistic psycho asshole, but I'm sure it turned a lot of people off.

One "problem" with Game of Thrones is the lack of sympathetic characters.

Outside of the Stark family, the only characters that I really like are the "Imp" and the commander at the Wall...

As a book reader, two of my favorite sympathetic characters (introduced in this season) are Sir Davos ("the onion knight" and former smuggler who serves Stannis Baratheon) and Brienne of Tarth (the woman who won the tourney battle at Renly's camp).

Tyrion and Arya are the bomb in the books. But John, Dany, Davos, Samwell, and Brienne are all good also. Heck, even Jaime grows on me in the books. Varys and Littlefinger are fun too, but not sure how sympathetic per say they are.

I like Margaery Tyrell much better in the TV series than what we got in the books. And I think Bronn is more fun in TV too, although he was somewhat fun in the books. I like Sansa a little better in the TV show too, but it is more I dislike her less, especially as they didn't show all her vapidness as much as the books did.

I know complaints about changes from the book are really boring to you, but I bet that you would have one complaint.

In the book, the traditional Qarthian gown (which Dany adopts) is a bit less demure, to put it mildly.

Becky has commented that while she understands that of course the nude body is a perfectly natural and healthy thing she notices that these natural and healthy nude bodies usually seem to be female natural and healthy nude bodies instead of male natural and healthy nude bodies.

Last episode the only unclothed upper body was Gendry's (male). But I think that as we as a society tend not to think of the top half of the male body in as sexual of terms as that of the female body those instances don't stand out to us as much.

Slow developing is worth it for the payoff. I find this to be true in all great TV shows. I mean, look how slow developing WINTER IS COMING is, I'm sure the dragons will be similar (as in, we will have to wait another season at least before they are badass).

And yes, there are lots of hot naked women in the show. It's HBO, lol.

Few years back they had a show called "Forbidden Science"

The plot was fairly ridiculous, however, with Noelle Dubois and Inna Ivanova who'se gonna quibble about little things like a "plot"

Just started watching the series. Have not read the books. There was a scene sequence in episode one that seemed to foreshadow a future for these two. My favorite part of episode one was when Bran, after witnessing the execution of the ranger, questions his father about the ranger's report of having seen the White Walkers and seems puzzled that his father did not consider the possibility that this could be true. I thought Cat's parting comment to Jon Snow was pretty honest and understandable under the circumstances. It will surprise me a lot if her character does not eventually feel ashamed for feeling that way and for making that comment. The Tyrion Lannister character is my favorite so far. Arya is up there. So are Bran, Jon Snow and Daenerys.
