4. What if the 2NT opening range was slightly different does it affect your decision - 20-21? 22-23? Where is your boundary?

This is a bad hand for anything but diamonds, and even then not so great one. So I'm showing a weak hand. I just wonder what would ... 2NT - (p) - 3C - (p) - 4D show. Cause it could well be something like this.

Over 3NT I bid 5D, if pard has AKx in D, bad luck. Atleast we have better chances of making 5D...

Over 2NT I just bid 5D and hope for the best.

Partner has a real strong hand or a fit.
As opener rates to have the spades and clubs, we should have a fit in a red suit, so this is surely a strong hand.

1 a. No I won't jump to 4 Diamond. Oppsite a normal take out double, 3 D is enough and when partner has a good hand with hearts, I want him to bid them at the 3. level.

2. Depending on the system. I would bid 4 diamond, looking for a slam if this approach shows extra sttrength. If X 3 NT just shows 19-20 HCPS with 4 hearts, I try 5 Diamond.

3. Last time I tried 5 Diamond on a similar hand and was rewared, when partner had AK tight in that suit.
Opposite a slightly stronger hand, (around 22/23 HCPS) I make a slam try, with fewer then 18 I may rest in a partial.

#1 the weak bid, one reason: It is highly likely that partner is really
strong, if I overstate my power I wont be able to stop him below
the 6 level
#2 5D, should be too play
#3 no slam interest, if partner has 7 of the 8 relevant cards to make
slam sensible, I wont be able to stop him
#4 I doubt it is that close, the hand is nice, but ...

I'd bid 5♦ over the double. There's no sensible way to investigate, and I don't want to do anything to encourage him to consider other strains.

I usually play a direct 4♦ as forcing, and 2NT followed by 4♦ as 5+ diamonds and four hearts. A good hand would take the forcing route, so 5♦ shows a weaker hand with shape, though this would be at the extreme end of that. Maybe 2NT followed by 5♦ should mean something like this.

5D. Hell, I have 8 of them and i am not pussy footing to try and find a heart fit. even with a H fit, I am not putting an 8 card suit down as dummy.
No way in the world am I only bidding 3D with this.
