I found myself subbing in the club for a couple of deals, and this happened:

Scoring: MP

N - E - S -W
ps-ps-1-X
1-ps-1NT-2
ps-ps-ps

Partner tanked before passing 2 so I quickly passed as well.

partner led K. I OVERTOOK, to PLAY TRUMP, and hopefully save a spade trick from my partner.

declarer though that her spades where solid, so drawed 3 trumps ending in dummy and played J. I COVERED, again to promote partner's spade tricks, and declarer won A.

She exited with a diamond. I won this trick and PLAYED A SPADE THROUGH. Declarer won with 10, and exited with a club. I won with J, and PLAYED ANOTHER SPADE.

As you can see, I made all efforts possible to save partner's spade trick. Next thing declarer did was to play a trump. Partner discarded 9, -140.

Frustrating but we should probably learn to find it hilarious.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

Besides playing for fun, most people also like to play bridge to win

We can only speculate on why you were needed as a sub.
