Jxxxx

KQ
KJx

With all vulnerable it goes:

1 2NT* 5 ???

Partner has hearts and clubs and the lenght of these suits plus the honors in them (A, K or Q) should add 14.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

Looks like 5. Can't double with double fit when partner could be 6-6

5. You only have one certain defensive trick against 5X, and 5 on most hands partner has rates to be either a good sac or will make.

Wow I thought it was going to be a pretty obvious double. I will see what some more people say.

The problem hands are not when they make 11 tricks they are when we can make 11 tricks.

This is a clear double.

If partner holds Ax Qxxxx x Qxxxx we won't make 5 but probably get one trick in or and two tricks from and so 5 is down.

If partner holds xx AQxxx x AQxxx we are still down in 5 (losing 2 and a ). But there's a big chance that 5 will go down too.

Edit:
Even a void does not help much if partner has 3 s. Holding xxx AQxxx AQxxx we are usually down in 5.

How definitive is your bid?

All are vul, so obviously there are many shortages around.
So I guess at least one side is making 11+tricks and bid 5
Kind Regards

Don't hang partner for overcalling, pretty obvious not 5. Since -2 is more likely than overtricks I'll double, but hardly obvious. I wouldn't criticize Pass a lot.

Double

KQ says defend. RHO has no points so probably 6 diamods.
Partner's likely is
xx  AQJxx  x  AQxxx

when 5 is -1. Yes partner might be 6-5 but accept the likely 500.
If I double quickly enough, partner can rip with extreme shape.

I click the red button. This is such a defensive hand! KQ are wasted, and Kings are nice, but Aces take tricks.

Double.

You need pretty much from partner to make 5, suits don't rate to break nicely. KQ are a total waste offencively.
Kind regards,
Harald

Did people read the part

"Partner has hearts and clubs and the lenght of these suits plus the honors in them (A, K or Q) should add 14. "

That makes 5 have a good chance of making.

I double. If PD is 5-5 with only 4 HCP vulnerable, either get a new PD or play a bit more disciplined U2NT :P
