AJx
AQx

Q109x

Patton (crossbreed between MP and IMPs), red against white, lefty deals.

(2D*) - pass - (2H*) - pass
(pass) - 2S - (pass) - ??

2D was multi, either a weak 2 in a major or a strong hand, 2H was pass/correct. Your call?
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

THis is certainly a wtp as long as you don't play with a partner who always passes on the first round 'to find out what the multi is based on'.

This used to be quite a popular defence. It's a pretty stupid defence, but I can't help that...

No partner was a strong player.

I feel no sorrow toward Han, otherwise agree.

If you don't play against a lot of multi, it takes a little effort to figure out what hands pard doesn't have when he makes a delayed 2 call.

We can rule out: 1) some sort of balanced 13-15, 2) hands that would have overcalled 2 the 1st time. I'm guessing these are great 9-10 counts or better, 3) anything really strong.

Armed with this, I expect perhaps an 8-11 with 5 only spades. Our Q is probably worthless and other than the intermediates, there isn't a lot to write home about here.

I suppose if I needed a swing, I might angle toward 3N, but lets not hang pard this one time.

I passed.

Partner had K5432 KJx Ax Kxx and was not comfortable bidding 2S red against white the first time. Thoughts?

He has to bid on the first round. Either 2S or whatever method shows a minimum balanced hand.

If he wants to pass on these hands you will need to change your methods.

I think your pard has a clear x of 2 playing familiar methods.

Understandable, but most play double includes 13-15 balanced so.....

Why did he think it would be any safer on the second round of the auction?
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn
