1) IMPs, All Red, Third Seat

AQ8754 Q3 A42 Q2

P - (1NT*) - 2 - (P)
3 - (P) - ?

1NT = 12-14

2) IMPs, All White, Second Seat

72 QT AKQ764 KQ4

(2*) - 3 - (4**) - Dbl
(4) - ?

2 was a nonconstructive weak 2 in either major (3-7HCP), 4 was tell me your major. Side question: do you think pass is forcing?

3NT

P, yes.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

1. I know the hand. I pass. Pard could bid 2N with a real forward going hand. 3N is possible.

2. Pass. It isn't forcing, but if pard passes he has a dog.

First one is close between pass and 3NT. I told Roger I would pass.

The second one I think is a clear pass. We need a lot of covers for 5D and we don't have much defense either. I don't think that pass is forcing, but I expect partner to bid 5D with a good offensive hand and to double with something like a balanced 10-count.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Pass and pass.

I think I try 3N on the first. Partner isn't bidding 3 with bus tickets when his RHO has passed. I would have overcalled with AJxxxx xx Axx Qx, so I'm quite a bit better than I might have been, so gotta go for it. It could be wrong - 3 may be our limit - but it seems inherently wrong to not accept what I take as an invitational bid from partner.

On the second I hate myself, but I have to pass. As Han said, need too many covers for 5 to take the decision unilaterally. I wouldn't take pass as 100% forcing, but I expect partner to make a call most of the time.
