For me something like

Hxxxx
x
xx(x)
HHxx(x)

with about 8-10pts or even 4s and 5s with 8 pts ( I would to balance double with that hand) , ie enough shape with some points but no defence to 2s and some light tolerance for s.

The problem with this bid is that it feels natural to bid it with 4-6 yet p may take it as 5-5.

I think it should show 4-6. With 5-5 you can double, or just bid 2.

Sounds like 4-6 or 4-7 (more likely if vulnerable) to me.

may have more high cards if 4-6, but a 4-1-2-6 9-count would double 2H.

I would think of it this way: Partner would certainly bid this way if he had four spades, long clubs, and a desire not to sell to 2H. He would have no other choice since a double risks that you might, on some hands, bid 3D (or even pass). He might bid this way with some other hands if he was really stuck for a bid, but the long club hand is the only one where I feel certain that this is how he would bid it. So that is the hand I would play him for.

As to strength, I dunno. I always feel that a guy should have at least a couple of face cards when he takes two bids but maybe I'm weird.
