Those who make takout doubles with two cards in an unbid major are destined to play in that major.

#2 is clear to me. Right or wrong, I pass with no regrets and, if wrong, no apologies.

#1 is far less clear to me. After 1C-pass-1D it is a fair bet that partner holds four spades opposite my two. If the opponents are playing Walsh style then it seems certain partner has four since rho is not apt to have the values to bid Diamonds first, planning then reverse into spades. So, if I X then partner will bid spades and I will do what? 2H seems to overstate the heart suit in my view. I think I bid 1H now but I confess to not knowing what to do when it comes back to me. Doubling at second turn seems likely to fetch 2S (or a "beats me, I'll pass and pray") from partner and I am not sure I like that even if he has five, and I am sure I don't if he has four.

So I guess I bid 1H and pass it out after that.

1. 1NT. This is a better description of my hand than overcalling 1 on that wimpy suit. I'm not strong enough to start with a double.

2. Pass, alternative 1NT. Borderline.
Kind regards,
Harald

#1- with my regular partners, X and then the cheaper of Hearts or NT next time.
But that's because my regular partner's know that my Power X can be as little as 16 very good points. I don't have very good points, but I don't have only 16 either.

With a pickup partner, 1, then pass or X.

#2- 1NT. I like 1NT. 1NT is good. Yay 1NT.
