Scoring: IMP

Bidding:
(1S)-2D-(P)-P
(2H)-3D-All Pass
Making 3D+3
If West bids 3D iso 1st pass does it show something or is it purely preemptive?

I play it as a weak raise, using 2S or rubens to show a sound raise. I would not have passed first time with West opposite 2D. I think N/S have an interesting problem.
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

"Gentlemen, when the barrage lifts." 9th battalion, King's own Yorkshire light infantry,
2000 years earlier: "morituri te salutant"

"I will be with you, whatever". Blair to Bush, precursor to invasion of Iraq

I would show diamond support the first time with West's hand.
If only 3 is available to support diamonds, then it is usually played with a wide range, from preemptive to a good game invite. If two bids are available to support (weak and good raise), then I think this hand is a minimum for the good raise.
N-S might compete up to 4, E-W should reach 3NT or 5 (best).

3 is a weak raise, 2 a strong raise.

I'd have bid 2 with the west hand - this is definitely a minimum hand for a strong raise.
Kind regards,
Harald

I am surprised how many people are showing a 'good raise' with the west hand, which I take to mean something like a limit raise. It really isn't good enough as far as I'm concerned. But of course, passing instead of raising was criminal.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

pass is a typical beginner mistake, you should raise 2 to 3 just as you would raise 1 to 2.

Also East should double second time, instead of bidding a suit in wich he has already shown 6 cards.

Yep, agree with Fluffy.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Hi,

if my partner passes my overcall with 4 card support
and 8HCP, we should start talking about overcalls.

Asuming you also play some kind of strong raise (e.g. 2S),
I think West should bid 3D. In the given seq. the raise is
constructive, but limited due to not bidding 2S, since South
passed 3D is not weak.
How to proceed over 3D is another story, maybe 3NT
is a fair gamble (looking at the heart shortage), maybe
pass ... I dont know.

With kind regards
Marlowe
