5♦: has more ways to win than 6. We can make it AND it can be effective in keeping opps out of their major fit. 6♦ doesn't carry a much higher preemptive value than 5 and it says something like "I have 4.5 losers and I want to play 6♦X". I'm not really comfortable with that... The only times 6♦ can work is when they try a non-scientific 6♠ intervention. But sometimes that's the only way to find it.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

The auction ran off the rails after the auction started 1 ♦ p 1♥ p 2 ♦
The argument presented was along the lines of not preempting pard and not putting out a bid that our teammates might not have replicated at their table.....the hand opposite was AQ AKJxxxx void Axxx
Any thoughts on getting to the ultimate contract and how to do so after both starts?

exactly: see my earlier post. 6♦ is not always going to be cold opposite a 5♦ opening, but it rates to be good most of the time....

Bridge is a funny game sometimes.
I'm also referring to the thread where we held KQ-8th of clubs and an outside Ace.
You chose to take a slow, methodical approach with 1♦, and hard a tough time getting to slam when pard held a misfitting monster.
On the other hand, if you made an intelligent blast with 5♦, pard has an easy, straightforward 6♦ call.

And I voted for 5minor on both hands
But I don't think that there is any inconsistency there. The point is that responder will raise to slam on a void only if looking at a hand that offers some play for no losers outside the trump suit, so we are never going to be in 6♣ on KQxxxxxx opposite void when we hold an outside Ace.

I guess the real problem comes from trying to visual the 1♦ 2♦ rebid hand when driving to slam.....the hand portrayed is NOT what was to be expected as it appears we all clearly see it as a 5D opening (barring the one vote for 6♦ and the 1 vote for 1♦ (voice in the wilderness?))
