Opps are not strong and 2♣ is possibly wide ranging (from 8 to 15 pts) and ♣'s don't have to be strong, but can be good.

I might be in a minority of 1 here, but I would have opened 1NT downgrading the QJ tight.

At MPs, I will double and pass partner's response (even 2♠, but obv not 3♣ over which I'll bid 3♥).

At IMPs, I will pass this out.

Hi,

you forgot to add 2D.

I think 2D is at least as good as 2H,
since you wont play 3D in a 4-3 fit.

If you go in, you bet that partner has
6-8HCP, but he did not make a neg. X
=> he will have diamonds.

The min. req. for a neg. X play a certain
role, if you assume +8/9, partner may
still look at 6-8, if partner can have less, he
is broke.

pass, trying for a plus score.
1) Would not downgrade if playing 15-17
2) would open nt if playing 16-18
3) Would open Mex 2D if that was a choice
4) P cannot have long D on this one and 6 hcp.

Count one more for 2♦. If I had KJ10xx and one less club, I'd bid 2♦. I'll accept replacing two small with the Ace comfortably.

Playing 2S on the 4-2 fit makes me feel sick....but at mp not as sick as passing.....dbl it is and hope for a red answer or maybe a pass by p with xxx xxx xxx KJ9x..;-)

♣I agree with opening this 1NT as well.

I would close my eyes and bid 2♥.

And this is another hand that shows why bidding 2♣ over 1♦ whenever possible is a good idea. :D

Double. Agree with downgrading when playing 15 - 17. If I'm playing 16 - 18 I won't care what happens on the board anyway since I will have been paid handsomely to play in the first place.

:wacko: I think there is a decent argument for 2♥, a bid that sounds like a novice's call. Partner is probably too weak and has too few clubs to make a penalty pass of a reopening double. I don't want to play a 4-2 spade fit, or even a 5-2 unless partner has good spots.

If I bid 2♥, chances are good that we can get out at either 2♥, 3♦, 2NT or 2♠ on a 5-2 fit, all undoubled. On the actual hand, 2♥ looks like a good place to play since I can ruff a ♦.

A pass looks like the winner on this hand, but I agree with most of the panel that my hand is too good to go quietly.

Double. And pass 2♠. I'd say pard is a big favorite to hold 5 spades here.

Zero guarantee of a plus in 2♣. I'd like to be at the table to see my RHO's demeanor over 2♣ however.

Double for me, I know many peolpe is passing, but if you ask any player above intermediate in Spain what to bid, you can be sure he won't pass, that option won't even cross their mind (exception to the 3-4 top players maybe), not even at IMPs (we are too used of MPs).

At least for me now, I will take a second though next time.
